Titans surge past Red Devils to remain unbeaten

OTTAWA, OH – A dominating team defensive performances and two standout offensive performances Saturday afternoon helped to keep Ottawa Glandorf unbeaten on the season.

Despite trailing 16-15 at the end of the first quarter the OG Lady Titans tightened up on their defense and only allowed 27 points over the final three quarters en route to a 69-42 victory.

Junior guard Ashley Schroeder led the Titans and all players in scoring in the contest as she upped her career high point total for the third straight game, this time to 24 when all was said and done. Schroeder, who moved into the starting lineup early in her sophomore season last year accounted for 12 of her markers in a dominating second quarter performance that also included hitting a pair of three pointers.

The second of OG’s dominant individual performances came from the reigning Western Buckeye League Player of the Year Kadie Hempfling who dazzled the early afternoon crowd with an array of long outlet passes leading directly to fast break buckets for her teammates including Schroeder.

When the dust settled on the Titans sixth victory of the season Hempfling notched her second career triple double as she finished with 18 points, a career high 18 rebounds, and 11 assists.

For the third consecutive game the Ottawa Glandorf defense flexed its muscle against an opposing high scoring offense, this time in the games penultimate stanza. Leading by a 37-28 margin heading into the quarter the Titans forced double digit Arlington turnovers and held the Red Devils to just a pair of made free throws by Hannah Willow and Kylie Sheets. The free throw by Sheets gave the visitors their first point of the quarter with 3:28 remaining and pulled Arlington within 42-29.

Jenna Pepple led the Red Devil offense with 15 points on the day but was held to just five points in the second half after starting off hot early on with 10 first half points.

Nine players recorded points for Ottawa Glandorf (6-0, 2-0) in the contest led by Schroeder’s 24. From behind the arc the OG offense hit seven three pointers from the hands of five different players. The Titans will be back in action on Thursday night when they travel to Ottoville to take on the unbeaten Big Green in non-league play before returning home next Saturday afternoon against Marion Local as part of Lady Titan Youth Basketball Day at 11:00 A.M.

Arlington sees their record fall to 6-1 overall.
