Titans outlast Jackets

OTTAWA – Saturday afternoon’s non-league tilt started with an Ottawa Glandorf offensive flurry but ended with the Titans defense controlling the clock on their way to a 42-33 victory over visiting Perrysburg.

In the opening minutes the Titans raced out to a 13-4 first quarter advantage led by a quartet of baskets from Ella Okuley and Chloee Glenn but found themselves up by just five at the quarter break as the Yellow Jackets cut into the lead before a stretch of over three minutes that saw neither offense able to score on the other.

Ottawa Glandorf increased their lead to 17-12 with 4:19 left in the first half on a short jumper by Alexa Fortman but would not score again the quarter as the Yellow Jackets Kylie Griggs buried a pair of three point goals nearly three minutes apart to push the visitors to their first lead at 18-17.

Chloee Glenn, the Titans leading scorer who accounted for seven first half points opened the third in a big way for OG as she fought through the Jacket post to put her team back on top 19-18 less than a minute into the quarter.

The lead for Ottawa Glandorf would be short lived however in the quarter thanks to Baldwin Wallace signee Bella Vaillant who tossed in her only make from the field in the contest on the next possession for Perrysburg and a 20-19 lead.

Multiple lead changes between the two teams in the third quarter came from shots from the duo of Macie Stringfellow and Jada Wilhelms for Perrysburg and Ella Okuley and a three by Anna Siefker for OG.

Leading the charge for the Titans on the fast break with a pair of scores and assists was Kelsey Erford who helped to put OG on top 30-27 in the closing seconds of the period. Perrysburg’s Jada Wilhelms ended the quarter by hitting 2 of 3 free throws to trim the lead to a single point after being fouled with under three seconds to go by Erin Kaufman.

OG’s high pressure defense held the Yellow Jackets to just a single make, a three pointer from Wilhelms with 1:53 remaining in the game that cut the lead to 39-32.

Kelsey Erford and Chloee Glenn scored or assisted on every Titan score in the fourth quarter as they would combine for 10 points and an assist on the final basket of the game, a long pass from Erford to Erin Kaufman for a two and the final marker in a 42-33 victory.

Perrysburg (3-1) was led in scoring by Griggs, the Pittsburgh softball commit with 11 points. The Yellow Jackets will be in action next on December 29th when they travel to take on Archbold.

OG moves to 9-0 on the season and runs their home winning streak to 21 straight games. The Titans were led by Glenn with 15 for her sixth straight double figure scoring game, and Erford who notched her seventh of the season with 10 points.

Next up for the Titans is a home game against Ottoville on Wednesday that begins with a JV tip at 4:00 P.M.
