Titans win 9th straight

OTTAWA, OH – Ottawa Glandorf jumped out to a 17 point first quarter lead and never looked back Thursday night as they dispatched Shawnee 70-45 to move to 6-0 in Western Buckeye League action.

Led by a season high 17 points from junior Erin Kaufman the Titans offense was rolling early as they blitzed out to a 21-4 first quarter advantage.

With scores by seven different players and three pointers from three of those the OG offense was clicking early, but it was the defense that was most impressive for the home team. For their part Shawnee was forced to play loose with the basketball as they accounted for 13 first half turnovers.

Scoring wise the second period was much better for the visiting Indians as they accounted for 16 markers, but still found themselves down 17 at the break 37-20. Nearly all of Shawnee’s scoring in the stanza came from the duo of All-WBL pick Alissa Stahler and Eliyana Floyd who combined for 11 of their 21 game markers.

As they have done for most of the season the Titans got solid contributions from their bench in the contest led by Kasey Ellerbrock who hit on a trio of three pointers in the game and finished with a career high 11, 8 of those coming in the first 16 minutes.

In the second half the OG offense continued to get points on steals and quick rebounds turned into run outs, a staple of Ottawa Glandorf’s game and outscored their opponents 33-25 to secure their 6th victory in as many tries in the Western Buckeye League.

Kadie Hempfling helped to push the pace for her squad in the second half as she added a pair of dazzling layups and a three pointer in the third quarter for seven of her 15 points. Along with the scoring the future Falcon handed out five assists and nabbed five rebounds in the game for the third ranked Titans.

Ottawa Glandorf (15-1, 6-0) will travel to Lima on Saturday afternoon for a date with the Lima Senior Spartans in a game that can be heard live on WZOQ Radio at 1:30pm.

Shawnee (8-8, 2-4) was led in scoring by Stahler who ended the game with 15. The Indians will next play host to Coldwater on Tuesday night in non-conference action.

Defense again shines in Titan win

LIMA, OH – Another game another strong defensive effort out of the gate for the Ottawa Glandorf Lady Titans leads the #1 team in Ohio’s Division 2 rankings to their 15th win over the season, 57-38 over Shawnee.

OG jumped out to a quick 12-0 lead in the first stanza as they forced a handful of Indian turnovers and turned them directly into fast break markers en route to a 21-6 advantage at the end of the opening eight minutes of play. Kylie White and Kadie Hempfling each scored six for the Titans in the period while Lexi Schroder tossed in five.

Shawnee’s first points of the ballgame came from 5’10 Junior and leading scorer Alissa Stahler who connected on a jumper with 2:42 remaining in the first to cut into the visiting squads lead.

Things didn’t get much better for Shawnee coach Jeff Heistan’s crew in the second quarter as the turnovers continued to pile up alongside the Titan point total. Erin Kaufman scored 7 of her 9 half points in the second quarter including her 21st three pointer of the season to help push the advantage out to 32-15 when the clock hit triple zeroes.

Allie Boone was a bright spot for the Indians in the second as she tossed in 7 of her team high 15 points including a three pointer of her own.

Kinsey Heistan’s three pointer from feet behind the arc early in the third period would help pull Shawnee closer to their opponents, but also represented the only points not to come from the free throw line where her team went 5/8 in the quarter.

Kadie Hempfling’s second quarter of scoring six points gave OG a 47-23 lead headed to the final stanza but it was Ashley Schroeder’s three pointer that provided one of the highlight reel plays in the quarter for the Titans.

The Indians finished the game with 31 turnovers on the evening but did find themselves outscoring OG 15-10 in the fourth quarter. Lexi Schroeder’s three pointer midway through the period helped her finish with a dozen markers on the evening and put the final touches on a 57-38 Ottawa Glandorf victory.

OG (15-0, 5-0) remained as the Western Buckeye League’s only unbeaten team with the win thanks to a 46-22 victory from Bath on the evening over Wapak that sees both teams behind the defending league champions at 4-1 in WBL play.
