Titans move to 4-0 in WBL

VAN WERT, OH – Big runs in both the second and third quarters Thursday night propelled Ottawa Glandorf past host Van Wert in Western Buckeye League play 68-43.

Leading 15-8 after the first quarter the visiting Titans (12-1, 4-0) blitzed ahead to a 38-22 halftime advantage thanks in large part to their fast break offense and 18 combined points by the trio of Ashley Schroeder, Erin Kaufman, and Kadie Hempfling.

Van Wert junior Alexis Metz not only gave her team the opening points of the contest, but she continued to add to the Cougar total from behind the line as she dropped in a quartet of shots behind the line to finish the night with 12 to lead her team.

Held to just a basket from Reagan Priest and a trio of free throws from Jamison Clouse and Priest herself, the Cougars were once again outscored by OG in the third quarter as the Titans enjoyed a 10-5 run and found themselves leading by 21 when the final stanza commenced.

In what nearly resembled a track meet at times, the fourth quarter would find a combined 13 players adding their names to the scorebook with a single or multiple buckets.

Ottawa Glandorf sharpshooters Carri Johnson and Mackenzie Meyer put their mark on the final score for the evening as each connected on a pair of late game triples. Van Wert’s duo of Metz and Jaylyn Rickard were also able to connect on two of their teams six three pointers before the final buzzer sounded.

For the game OG’s Kadie Hempfling finished as the leading scorer with 16 while Ashley Schroeder ended the night with 14 markers.

The Cougars (2-10, 0-4) will be back in action on Saturday when they play host to Lincolnview while the Titans will be off until next Thursday, January 18th when they travel to the Celina Fieldhouse to take on the Bulldogs and attempt to win their 15th straight Western Buckeye League contest. Kaufman scores career night in Titan win over Van Wert

OTTAWA, OH – Sophomore guard Erin Kaufman scored a career high 15 points Thursday night as the Ottawa Glandorf Lady Titans defeated WBL rival Van Wert for the fifth straight meeting between the two schools 56-29.

Ten players rushed in and out of the Titan lineup early in the contest and helped the home squad jump out to a 17-9 advantage at the end of the first period as six of the players seeing action recorded points.

Lexi Schroeder and Kylie White led OG with four points apiece in the opening eight minutes of action.

Van Wert 5’10 Sophomore Abby Jackson scored the only points from the field in the first quarter as she tossed in a pair of two point baskets before teammates Alexis Rupert and Reagan Priest, and Jackson herself took advantage of early Ottawa fouls for five markers from the charity stripe.

Jackson continued to be the lone scorer from the field for the Cougars in the second half as she accounted for the remaining four points she would contribute on the evening before seeing Cassidy Meyers and sister Ally Jackson hit from the field for a combined five points in the stanza.

Kadie Hempfling who finished the night with 10 points chipped in 8 of her scores in the second and led a high tempo Titan attack that again combined to outscore Van Wert 17-9 and take a 34-18 lead into the lockerroom.

Carri Johnson and Kaufman did the damage on the offensive end for OG in the third period as they each connected on a shot from behind the arc to increase their teams lead. Turnovers were the story of the game in the period as well as the Cougars turned the ball over a handful of times in the quarter and did not score until there was just 2:52 left in the quarter when Priest tossed in a two point field goal for two of her teams five points.

Entering the final period Erin Kaufman had scored 9 points, but quickly wasted no time as early in the fourth quarter she hit a pair of three pointers to finish with a game high 15 points to break her previous high of 13 on a trio of occasions.

Van Wert saw their only points of the final eight minutes come from deep as well as Ally Jackson hit on a pair from behind the three point line.

Eight Titans scored on the evening and three players (Kaufman, Hempfling, White) finished in double figures.
