Titans win in extras

GLANDORF, OH – It took the Ottawa Glandorf Titans an extra frame but they were able to pick up their second Western Buckeye League win of the season with a 4-3 triumph over Bath.

OG hurler Chase Schrieber was tagged for three first inning runs by Bath but settled down over the course of the next seven innings of work where he would surrender just three hits and a pair of bases on balls. Twelve straight hitters from the second through the fifth would be retired by Schrieber.

Bath’s starting pitcher Hunter Iiames suffered the same fate as his opposing pitcher in the contest until the final frame on the afternoon where he was hit for three runs in an inning before settling down to retire 18 straight Titan batters.

Trailing 3-0 in the bottom half of the second inning the home team went to work with the bats as leadoff hitter BJ Fortman reached on an error and moved over on an Iiames balk before being knocked in on a one out single by Michael Bowers. Bowers himself was quickly able to cross home plate as teammate Ethan White reached on a triple before himself being brought in to tie the ballgame at 3-3 on a Logan Miller double.

While pitching was dominating on both sides of the diamond, defensive gems were also in high fashion in Glandorf. Bath DH Cole Parlapiano was robbed of a single on a ball into short right field by Ottawa second baseman Fortman to keep his pitchers string of consecutive outs intact. After Iiamed and Boedicker both reached via singles, the greatest threat for the visitors to retake the lead came on Boedicker’s hit but ended quickly the top of the fifth frame when the trio of Ethan White, Owen Hiegel and catcher Logan Miller combined for a 7-6-2 putout at the plate on a laser throw from Hiegel in the outfield grass.

Bath’s last best chance to push across the go ahead run in the ballgame came in the top of inning seven when the bases were loaded following a single by Parlapiano and a pair of walks to Iiamed and Boedicker. Jeremiah Bolon grounded out for the third time in the contest to Michael Bowers at third base and sent the game tied ultimately into extra innings after a 1-2-3 inning by the Titans in the bottom of the last regulation frame.

The bottom of the 8th inning began with a 6-3 ground out by Miller. Evan Balash reached a full count against Iiames and was ultimately walked before he was sent to third on a single by Owen Hiegel. Right fielder Grant Fuerst who approached his final at bat at 0-3 on the day ripped a fastball back up the middle to score Fuerst and give OG their first win against Bath since the 2015 tournament meeting between the two schools.

Ottawa Glandorf (7-2, 2-1) will be in action weather permitting on Saturday at home in Glandorf with a double header against Wauseon while the Wildcats (4-6, 1-2) will take on a red hot St. Henry squad on Monday evening that has scored 35 runs in their last two contests.

In defeat Hunter Iiames tossed 7.1 innings and surrendered 4 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits while striking out 4 and walking just a single Titan hitter on 90 pitches. Schrieber hurled 8 innings on the day and ended with 109 pitches on his resume while surrendering 3 runs (3 earned) along with 6 strikeouts and a pair of free passes.

Bath outhit their opponents 8-5 in the game and were led by the duo of Iiames and Isaiah Bolon who each notched two hits. Five players for OG (Hiegel, Fuerst, Bowers, White, Miller) finished with hits.

Titans win 4th game of season

WAUSEON, OH – Ottawa Glandorf Tuesday night rolled to a 27 point victory at Wauseon to improve their record to 4-0 on the young season.

The reigning Western Buckeye League Player of the Year Kadie Hempfling got the scoring started early and often for the Titans as behind a bevy of steals and blocks by her team she accounted for 13 of her game high 19 markers in the first quarter. Kylie White snagged a handful of rebounds in the stanza as well and connected on 4/4 from the free throw line to go along with her made basket for 6 of her teams 22 points in the opening eight minutes of play.

Leading 22-6 when the second quarter began the Titans wasted no time adding to their lead as the duo of Erin Kaufman and Lexi Schroeder pumped in a three pointer and a fast break bucket while holding the Indians to 11 points in the period and just 17 in the opening half.

Ottawa Glandorf led 36-17 in the early moments of the third quarter and again used Kaufman to stretch their lead even larger as the Titan Sophomore found the bottom of the bucket on a trio of occasions to put her squad on top 46-22 heading into the final period.

Wauseon (0-4) was led in scoring by Karli Penrod who finished with 8 points, including a pair of three point goals in the third quarter.
