CELINA, OH – Ottawa Glandorf scored off of the games opening tip and continued their scoring until the final buzzer on Thursday night as they remained unbeaten in WBL play with a 68-39 win over host Celina.
On the games opening tip the Titans had three players touch the ball in just a matter of seconds and saw the opening salvo fired as Ashley Schroeder stuck in a layup off a pass from Kadie Hempfling for her first of a dozen markers on the night.
Schroeder scored eight of her points in the opening period of play on an array of turnovers from the home team and was joined on quick run out scores on long throws from Hempfling by Erin Kaufman and even Hempfling her self on one occasion as the Titans pushed their advantage near the end of the stanza.
The only shot from deep the visitors made in the game in the opening half came from senior Carri Johnson who was making her first start of the season and helped to add to her teams 22-6 first quarter lead.
With their transition defensive in high gear the Titans turned to their leader Hempfling for second quarter scoring as she pumped in 9 of the teams 17 during the eight minute span.
As the clock displayed just 2:20 to go before the halftime break Lauren Jackson drilled a right wing three to pull her team into double digits in the contest but saw her team behind on the scoreboard 37-11 and then ultimately at the stoppage by a 39-13 margin.
Brianna Schimmoeller, a former starter for Ottawa Glandord dropped in six of her eight points on the evening in the third quarter as the sophomore was part of six different players to score in the period for the visitors who increased their lead to 30 leading into the fourth and final stanza.
Maddy Luebke, a 6’0 junior post who had finished in double digits in her last two contests against OG led her team in the third as she connected on 3/4 from the free throw line and even tossed in one of the two three pointers the Bulldogs would hit in the quarter.
In the final eight minutes with the game all but in hand for the Titans, head coach Troy Yant began to work in some of his reserves and see those players immediately produce results. Junior Kasey Ellerbrock dropped in a pair of fourth quarter three balls in the Titan onslaught while Mylee Utrup, Peyton Warnecke, and Emily Miller also added markers before the final buzzer for OG.
From their own bench the Bulldogs got contributions from senior Riley Miller and Marcedes Zeisloft but it was not enough to change the tide as Celina fell in the end 68-39.
Ottawa Glandorf (13-1, 5-0) has now defeated Celina (1-14, 0-5) in six straight meetings with the Bulldogs. Saturday afternoon the Titans will travel to Washington Court House to take on Miami Trace team they were able to defeat at home last season while the Bulldogs will trek to Versailles to battle the Tigers.
