Titans win 9th straight

OTTAWA, OH – Ottawa Glandorf jumped out to a 17 point first quarter lead and never looked back Thursday night as they dispatched Shawnee 70-45 to move to 6-0 in Western Buckeye League action.

Led by a season high 17 points from junior Erin Kaufman the Titans offense was rolling early as they blitzed out to a 21-4 first quarter advantage.

With scores by seven different players and three pointers from three of those the OG offense was clicking early, but it was the defense that was most impressive for the home team. For their part Shawnee was forced to play loose with the basketball as they accounted for 13 first half turnovers.

Scoring wise the second period was much better for the visiting Indians as they accounted for 16 markers, but still found themselves down 17 at the break 37-20. Nearly all of Shawnee’s scoring in the stanza came from the duo of All-WBL pick Alissa Stahler and Eliyana Floyd who combined for 11 of their 21 game markers.

As they have done for most of the season the Titans got solid contributions from their bench in the contest led by Kasey Ellerbrock who hit on a trio of three pointers in the game and finished with a career high 11, 8 of those coming in the first 16 minutes.

In the second half the OG offense continued to get points on steals and quick rebounds turned into run outs, a staple of Ottawa Glandorf’s game and outscored their opponents 33-25 to secure their 6th victory in as many tries in the Western Buckeye League.

Kadie Hempfling helped to push the pace for her squad in the second half as she added a pair of dazzling layups and a three pointer in the third quarter for seven of her 15 points. Along with the scoring the future Falcon handed out five assists and nabbed five rebounds in the game for the third ranked Titans.

Ottawa Glandorf (15-1, 6-0) will travel to Lima on Saturday afternoon for a date with the Lima Senior Spartans in a game that can be heard live on WZOQ Radio at 1:30pm.

Shawnee (8-8, 2-4) was led in scoring by Stahler who ended the game with 15. The Indians will next play host to Coldwater on Tuesday night in non-conference action.

2nd quarter run surges Titans to 5-0 in WBL

OTTAWA, OH – One of the biggest quarters in Lady Titan basketball history helped OG stay undefeated Thursday night as they surged past visiting Shawnee 73-47.

Leading 23-16 after the first quarter the Titans turned up their defensive pressure on the Indians and outscored Shawnee by a 31-8 margin to push their lead to 54-24 at the halftime break. In the quarter the Titans found themselves on a 14-0 run where they could seemingly not miss, finishing the half by connecting on 19/23 shots from the field along with 10/11 from the free throw line.

Shawnee’s Ijah Austin actually gave her team a 2-0 lead in the early moments of the game but a run by OG fueled by 8 points from Lexi Schroeder put a stop to OG trailing in the game and gave the Titans a lead they would not again relinquish.

Of the 31 points the Titans found themselves with on the Supreme Court scoreboard in the second period 13 came from Sophomore Kadie Hempfling who was forced to sit in the first quarter after picking up a pair of quick fouls on the defensive end. Dani Ellerbrock utilized a pair of OG steals en route to four of her nine markers in the period and also drained a long three pointer from straight away. In all the Titans connected on 6/8 first half shots from deep.

Grace O’Connor’s trio of three pointers in the second half helped pull Shawnee closer, but it was not to be as despite 13 points from gritty point guard DeAsia Smith the Indians would fall and see their record drop to 3-10 on the season.

Ottawa Glandorf was led in scoring by Hempfling’s 22 points and were backed up by a balanced effort as 7 of her teammates etched their name in the scoring column as well. The Titans record improves to 12-1 on the year and the win keeps them as the WBL’s only unblemished squad at 5-0. OG, ranked #5 in Division 2’s first AP Poll of the season will travel to Lima to take on the Lima Senior High Spartans on Saturday at 1:30pm.
