Titans rain 3’s on Patriots

OTTAWA, OH – Ottawa Glandorf began their night by recognizing their seniors but it was a strong effort by their underclass teammates that helped the Titans brush aside Patrick Henry 66-32 Tuesday night.

On the evening the home team exploded to hit 13 shots from behind the arc (just one shy of the Putnam County record in a game) from the hands of six different players. In the opening minutes senior Carri Johnson and the junior duo of Kasey Ellerbrock and Erin Kaufman knocked down three pointers to give the Titans a quick 17-4 advantage.

As good as OG was on the defensive end and beyond the arc in the first they were nearly as lethal on both ends in the second period as Ellerbrock and Johnson struck again from outside to help push the Titan lead out further. Defensively the Titans seniors of Kadie Hempfling and Mackenzie Meyer helped to facilitate run outs and baskets for Ottawa Glandorf.

Junior guard Ashley Schroeder led the scoring barrage for the WBL leaders in the second stanza as she hit for 10 of her game high 16 points to help push her team to the break with a 40-13 mark.

In the third quarter the visiting Patriots hit for one of their two shots from behind the arc on the evening, a deep wing shot from sophomore Audrey Sonnenberg but were held to just seven quarter markers as turnovers continued to hound the squad from getting good looks at baskets.

Leah Johns, a senior who will play college softball at Adrian College made her mark in the final eight minutes for Patrick Henry as she tossed in all six of her points as the Titans had begun to sub out their starters and key reserves.

Kadie Hempfling led the OG overall attack as she finished with 11 points, 12 rebounds, 5 steals but it was the duo of Schroeder and Johnson who lead the scoring on the evening as they totaled 28 of the teams points.

For Johnson the game was not only a season high in points with 12, but also in three pointers as knocked down a trio of deep three pointers and eclipsed her previous season high of 9 that came in a December 30th win at Liberty Benton.

Patrick Henry (6-13) ended the night with 8 points as their high mark from sophomore Callie Seedorf. The Patriots will be on the road again Thursday night in NWOAL play at Evergreen and will begin their tournament run on February 21st in Lincolnview against Crestview.

Ottawa Glandorf (17-2) will begin their tournament contests on February the 24th in Bluffton as they take on either Lima Central Catholic or Perry. The Titans are on the road this Thursday night at Kenton as they look to wrap up at least a share of the Western Buckeye League for the third consecutive season and win their 18th straight league game.
