OTTOVILLE, OH – The sixth ranked Ottoville Big Green marched to their 23rd straight regular season victory on Tuesday night at L.W. Heckman Gynmasium as they were victorious in a non-league battle 47-31 over visiting Bath.
CJ Kemper helped to put her team on top of the last team to beat the Big Green during the regular season as she quickly cashed in on a trio of first quarter makes from the field. Senior Abi Hilvers put the home team even further ahead in the first period as she connected on a pair of shots from behind the arc to make the score 18-9 Ottoville at the games first quarter break.
While the Wildcats shot just 6/17 from the field in the first half, they got timely shooting from Abbie Dackin and Jaidyn Hale to keep the Big Green defense honest on who to clamp down on.
Leading 23-15 at the halftime stoppage the home team relied on senior Bridget Landin in the third period, and the future Findlay Oiler delivered as she dropped in six of her game high 13 to push the Big Green lead to 32-18 at the horn. Defensively Ottoville forced a handful of turnovers in the quarter and held Bath to just a single make from the field, a basket from Kaleigh Ketcham.
Both teams came out firing in the final 8 minutes of the contest and combined for 28 markers led by Ottoville junior Kasey Knippen with 6 and Bath freshman Ruby Bolon who tossed in 5.
With the win the Big Green see their record improve to 13-0 on the season. Longtime Ottoville mentor Dave Kleman sees his career win total improve to 493 and will take his squad to Continental on Thursday night where they will look to move to 4-0 in Putnam County League play.
Bath has now dropped back to back games in Putnam County and sees their record fall to 9-3 overall. The Wildcats will welcome Western Buckeye League foe Celina to town on Thursday before taking on Delta on Saturday at Ohio Northern University as part of a doubleheader with their boys team who battles Spencerville.
