Titans outlast Jackets

PERRYSBURG, OH – Despite not putting a point on the scoreboard in the final quarter until there was 2:30 remaining the OG Titans outlasted host Perrysburg Tuesday night 48-41 in non-league action.

Ottawa Glandorf jumped out to a 16-9 first quarter advantage and found themselves in the lead 29-20 at the halftime break in large part due to their jump shooting. Behind a three pointer from Erin Kaufman and a pair of first period buckets from post player Paige Sutter the Titans found themselves on top 7-0 before a Whitney Thames free throw with 5:40 remaining in the first broke their goose egg on the scoreboard.

Junior guard Nadeen Jemaa helped pull the host Yellow Jackets back into the ballgame in the second quarter as she connected on a pair of quick shots from downtown, but Mackenzie Meyer answered with one of her own to push the OG lead to nine at the break.

Perrysburg senior and returning All-Ohio selection Ashlynn Brown who finished the contest with a game high 16 points on the night led the charge down low for the Yellow Jackets in the paint as she would go on to grab a trio of big rebounds and toss in nine of her markers in the second half.

Coming into the game 20 points away from becoming the fourth Titan to score 1,000 in her career Kadie Hempfling went into attack mode for her team in the third quarter as she hit on 3/4 from the free throw line and a three pointer from the right wing to push her team even further of their opponents. For the game the future BGSU Falcon scored 14 points.

In the fourth quarter with Ottawa Glandorf being outscored 7-0 it was Hempfling who nailed one of her fourth quarter charity tosses to give the Titans their first points of the stanza and push their lead to 43-39.

With just a minute left in the contest it was Carri Johnson who for the second straight game hit on a big fourth quarter shot to help keep her team with the advantage, as this time her shot provided the final seven point cushion OG needed to survive the Jackets late onslaught.

Perrysburg (7-2) has now dropped two straight and will take be on the road to battle Bowling Green on Friday in a Northern Lakes League contest before traveling to Toledo to take on Central Catholic on Saturday.

With their win Ottawa Glandorf moves to 10-1 on the season and will be home on Thursday night to take on Western Buckeye League foe Bath and will attempt to keep their 19 game home winning streak in tact.

Yant wins 100th, Titans remain unbeaten

OTTAWA, OH – Tuesday night at the Supreme Court the OG Lady Titans used a big fourth quarter from the free throw line to keep themselves undefeated and give Head Coach Troy Yant his 100th career victory with a 54-46 triumph over visiting Perrysburg.

OG finished 16/20 from the charity stripe in the contest but connected on 10/12 in the fourth quarter, led by Kadie Hempfling who raised her season average by connecting on 6/8 tosses on her own just a game removed from hitting the game winner against previously undefeated Columbus Grove on Thursday night.

Hailey Wenzelman, a 14 point per game scorer this season for the Yellowjackets got started early in the first quarter as she scored the first points for the visitors and 7 of her team high 16 on the night. Titan seniors Lexi Schroeder and Kylie White shouldered the load of the offense for the home squad in the opening quarter as the duo combined for 11 and helped OG lead after the first period stoppage 14-12.

With White and Hempfling on the bench at times due to foul trouble the OG offense was held to just five second quarter points but were able to tie the game at 19 all when Sophomore guard Erin Kaufman nailed a three pointer from the top of the key. Perrysburg Junior Kristina DeMarco’s quick scoring run led to five points in the quarter and helped her team build a 23-19 advantage at the halftime break.

In the third period the duo of White and Hempfling again led the Titan offense as they tossed in 12 of their teams markers, but it was a three pointer from Devon Warnecke that helped OG keep pace, that is until 5’10 Perrysburg Senior Maggie Morse beat the third period buzzer with a layup to give the Yellowjackets a 38-36 lead seconds before the final quarter.

As fouls began to mount up and players were forced to work through their own foul trouble in the fourth quarter OG to use the free throw line to their advantage as their trio of Kaufman, White, and Hempfling did the damage for their team while helping to keep their opponents total to just 2/2 from the same spot in the last eight minutes. DeMarco contributed four of her nine points in the game before fouling out with just minutes to go.

Ottawa Glandorf is now 10-0 for just the third time in school history and will return to the Supreme Court on Thursday night when they play host to Western Buckeye League foe Van Wert. Kylie White was the leading scorer for Troy Yant’s crew as she lead the Titans in scoring for the 5th straight game with 19 points while also snagging 13 rebounds.

Perrysburg sees their record fall to 6-3 on the season with losses to OG, Archbold, and Twinsburg.

Schroeder career night pushes OG past Perrysburg

PERRYSBURG – For the third consecutive game the Ottawa Glandorf Titans were paced in scoring by a career high from one of their players as they downed Perrysburg 41-27. Junior Lexi Schroeder eclipsed her career high of 12 points by dropping in 15 in the contest, including a pair of triples to help her team improve to 5-1 this season on away from their home court.

Both squads got off to a slow start in the first quarter and found themselves on the end of a lot of empty possessions. OG was unable to get a point on the scoreboard until the 3:41 mark of the stanza when Kylie White connected on a pair of free throws to cut the Yellowjackets lead to 4-2. Trailing 8-7 in the last few seconds of the opening period, Dani Ellerbrock’s runner as the horn sounded would give the Titans a 9-8 advantage heading to the second stanza that would never relinquish.

A back and forth second quarter was won again by OG with 9 points as they pushed their lead to 18-17 at the half led by five points in that span from Schroeder who also connected on one of her two three pointers for the evening.

Perrysburg not only found themselves held to one basket from the field in the third quarter, but with a couple of players in foul trouble as the Titan attack began to wear down the defense of their opponents and lead to opportunities for easier baskets than had come in the first half. Ottawa Glandorf was also held to not much from the field but did muster a pair of hoops in the games penultimate period despite turning over the basketball far too many times for head coach Troy Yant’s liking.

Heading into the final period OG found themselves with a 26-21 advantage and would attempt to hold that lead as they looked to down the Jackets for the second consecutive season.

A pair of three pointers from Schroeder and White helped push the Titan advantage out to nine points in the opening part of the quarter. Perrysburg’s duo of Taylin Hunter and Ashlyn Brown who had spent a good portion of the contest in foul trouble ultimately found themselves disqualified and forced to watch the rest of the contest from the bench with their fifth fouls. White, Schroeder and Ellerbrock scored all of the Titans 15 points and helped their squad finish off the home team by a 41-27 margin.

OG, now 10-1 on the season will head to Celina on Thursday night for a battle of 3-0 teams in the WBL as they take on the Bulldogs. Pregame for the contest begins at 7:15pm and can be heard live on WZOQ Radio.

Perrysburg sees their season record fall to 5-5 and will travel to take on Maumee on Friday night.
