Four Titans named All-WBL

Western Buckeye League Champion Ottawa Glandorf was well represented on this seasons All-WBL Girls basketball selections as the Titans nabbed four spots.

Future Bowling Green University Falcon Kadie Hempfling was named the league’s top honor of Player of the Year for the third straight season, an honor no one else has received in recent voting. With her selection this season the Titans have now captured four of the last five trophies for the conference’s top player. Last season Hempfling shared the honor with teammate Kylie White, a year after winning the award by herself as a Sophomore. Kristen Miller who plays her college ball at Indiana University East won the award for the 2013-14 season.

Hempfling who is averaging 14 points per game to go along with 9.8 rebounds and 5.5 assists was joined on the 1st Team by a pair of recent 1,000 point scorers in Defiance’s Emily Poling who will play college basketball at Ursuline University, and Elida’s Shyah Wheeler.

Also on the 1st Team squad were Bath guard Jaidyn Hale and future Ohio Northern University teammate Lexi Jacobs from Wapakoneta along with Shawnee’s Alissa Stahler.

Second team honors were bestowed upon OG sharpshooter Erin Kaufman who ranks third on her team in scoring at 8.4 points per game and was a third team selection last season in a year where she broke the schools three point record with 56. This season Kaufman, a Junior has led the Titans in scoring four times, including on Saturday night with 13 in a Sectional Finals victory over LCC.

Joining Kaufman on the second unit is Bath’s Lindsay Singhaus, Kenton’s Ellie Miller, Wapakoneta’s Sarah Pothast who just recently announced her intent to play college basketball at Edison State Community College.

The final member of the 2nd Team was St. Marys forward Makenna Mele who saved her best performance of the season for the biggest game of her Senior year where on Saturday night in the Sectional Finals at Spencerville she recorded a career high 27 points to help her Roughriders end rival Bath’s season and propel St. Marys into their first District contest in 9 seasons.

Members of the league’s 3rd Team included Ottawa Glandorf Junior and second leading scorer Ashley Schroeder, Layne Taylor from Kenton, Cassidy Meyers of Van Wert, Kennedy Replogle of Defiance, and St. Marys Sydney Cisco.

Cisco is the only girls player to ever have hit 200 plus three pointers in her career and sits just five triples away from breaking the schools single season record. The four year starter will enter this weeks District Semifinals at Paulding as the Riders 9th all-time leading scorer and just 35 points away from being the 9th member of the programs 1,000 point club.

Honorable Mention nods went to OG Junior Paige Sutter (4.7 ppg, 3.3 reb), Celina’s leading scorer Lauren Jackson, Defiance’s Morgan Wityk, Abby Jackson of Van Wert, Lauren Cisco from St. Marys, Bette Andrews of Bath, Ijah Austin from Shawnee, Amira Freeman of Elida, Kori Barrett from Kenton, and Makenzie Wilson representing Wapakoneta.
