ARCHBOLD, OH – 9th ranked Ottawa Glandorf traveled to Archbold to battle the 5th ranked Bluestreaks Tuesday night and emerged from the Thunderdome victorious 52-41 in non-league action.
Titan junior guard Erin Kaufman led all players in scoring in the game with a season high 18 markers and was feeling it early and often as she canned a pair of deep three pointers to put her team on top of host Archbold.
Entering this season Ottawa Glandorf had only ever connected on 10 or more three pointers one time, last season at home against Tinora. For the second time in three games the Titans hit that number from behind the arc as they combined for 10 at Archbold on Tuesday.
Trailing by a point at 17-16 with 4:04 to go in the opening period and with two of his starters in foul trouble Titan mentor Troy Yant elected to call a timeout to talk to his troops. Whatever Yant said to his ladies worked for the final half of the quarter as they blitzed to an 11-0 run before the break and a 27-17 halftime advantage.
Kaufman got the rally started with her third triple of the half to put her team on top 19-17 out of the stoppage. In addition to Kaufman’s three pointer the duo of Brianna Schimmoeller and Kasey Ellerbrock unleashed big shots to help push the lead before Erin herself ended the spree with a spinning layup off the glass for two.
While it was Andi Peterson who got the first shot from deep to go for Archbold in the first half, only Kamryn Hostetler would open the scoring for the Streaks in the third with her teams only other three pointer to keep her team within shouting range of OG.
Archbold connected on seven of eight free throws in the third and fourth quarters from Lily Krieger and Emie Peterson, but were never able to pull even with the visitors despite a big second half from senior Emie Peterson who hit for all 11 of her markers in that span.
In the final eight minutes the Titans got a balanced scoring effort off Archbold turnovers from Kaufman, Kadie Hempfling, and Ashley Schroeder to put their hosts away for the sixth straight meeting.
Archbold sees their record fall to 19-2 on the season with both losses coming to members of the Western Buckeye League (Defiance). The Bluestreaks will be back in action Thursday night as they do battle with Delta for the NWOAL title as both come into the game at 6-0 in conference play this season.
Ottawa Glandorf (19-2) has already clinched their third straight Western Buckeye League crown but will look to finish the season unbeaten in the WBL when they play host to the last team to beat them in conference play in the Wapakoneta Redskins on Thursday night to finish regular season play.
